Top 5 Tips For Speed Dating

As a dating expert with more than 9 years of experience hosting singles events, matchmaking, and now primarily focused on date coaching, the below tips come from numerous events I have witnessed. Speed Dating is definitely an enjoyable event if done right and beats endlessly swiping on your phone. Keep these tips in mind the next time you are even thinking of signing up for Speed Dating.

  1. Keep in mind the purpose – As stated before – these events rock! They are adrenaline laced events that allow you to reintroduce yourself with plenty of singles than you would anywhere else. Maybe you’re tired of using online dating or being bored at home, either way, remember your purpose.
  2. Hydrate – Since you may work your nerves even before the event starts make sure you drink plenty of water. The last thing you want is to speak with a single you’re interested in and yet have dry mouth, or worse yet bad breath, because you forgot to drink water. Whether you’re planning on downing some liquid courage or not do not forget this simple tip.
  3. “By the third round…” – By the third round of rotating and meeting a new single, you’ll start to get into a groove. This may happen earlier or later for some but this is about the time your body starts to relax and get into a rhythm of opening questions and responses. With these tips you can start showing your best you from the start of the first round.
  4. Steal the night – Many feel that 3-5 minutes are not enough so they might talk too fast or not quite know what to ask at the moment due to the anxiety of the clock. Do not fret as most event coordinators will allow for a post-event mixer where you’ll be able to better get to know someone you’re interested in. Do not focus on what you did right, wrong, or on a mutual match but on socializing afterwards and taking advantage of your night out.
  5. Make sure to follow-up – After you’ve attended the event, enjoyed your time, and even received some matches do not forget to follow-up. The worst is that you get too busy, nervous, or lazy to contact that special someone which will result in the event being a waste. Show them that you’re not just short term charismatic but that you enjoyed the brief time you had with them and want more of it.
